Wilder, worse, Smildon

Minna Lindeberg & Jenny Lucander

In kindergarten Annok Sarri and Karin Bergström are lions in a cage. The others want them to step forward. Then Annok throws a doll in the mirror, and everything breaks into a thousand bites. Karin wants to comfort but Annok needs to get out and calm down. With an adult.

Karin does not have much to do with out Annok. And she does not come back, she moves far away: to Karigasniemi, Utsjoki, Lappland.

This book is about a shy bystander who gets warm from being seen. And about kindergarten teachers who does not understand and parents who don’t fit in. About children’s powerlessness in situations of change. And about that nothing can ever disappear forever. Especially not friendship.

This is Minna Lindeberg and Jenny Lucanders first book in common, it’s hearty, wise and wild and goes straight to the heart. It got nominated for Runeberg Junior 2016 and Nordic council prize for children and youth literature 2017.

Press voices

With Minna Lindeberg and Jenny Lucanders Wilder, worse, Smildon the finlad-swedish picture books enters a new era” – Hufvudstadsbladet

Minna Lindberg hits the bullseye in Wilder, worse, Smildon, with a story about the wild child who doesn’t fit in and that gets blamed and are expected to be troublesome” – Svensk Yle

Nothing is right in the middle-class-spirit without a limping pink haired mom that is depicted in her unclean home. Lucander is not afraid to let the ugly everyday realism with trash bags in the corner show, which feels extremely fresh.” – Ny Tid
