The Pinchers and the Gold Diamond

Anders Sparring & Per Gustavsson

Ture can do almost everything. He can count to a thousand and knows a bunch of French words. He can tie his own shoes, work the washing machine, the stove and the remote control for the TV just as well as any grown-up. But lie, that he can’t.

“Then you’ll have to practice,” mom says sternly. Ture gets a knot in his stomach. No matter how hard he tries, he just can’t.

Because, the thing is, the family Pinchers encourage their family members to lie and take things from others. And now, mom Fia and dad Rob are planning a visit to the diamond show in the capital. Since Ture can’t lie, he reveals the plan to Paul Eesman, who decides to stop them. Ture and his younger sister Ellen see no other alternative than to break into jail to ask their grandma for help. With drastic humour and colourful images, this is the perfect, bridge between picture and chapter book, for age 6-9.

Anders Sparring is a screen writer and has written television scripts for many popular children’s shows. In addition to his writing (three books about Karla Wrestler), Anders also does stand-up comedy.

Per Gustavsson is an illustrator and author. He has illustrated a number of books, both his own and for others. His books about the Princess have sold 200 000 copies and are translated to several languages.

The series has been translated to German, Dutch, Danish, Estonian, Czech, Latvian, Finnish, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, and English. The TV series about the family, “A (dis)Honest Christmas with the Pinchers”, was broadcast in December 2021 on SVT, Sweden’s public service television, and a feature film premiered in movie theaters in December 2023

The books have sold over 300,000 copies in Sweden!

Press voices

“You love the Pinchers family from the first page – especially the decent Ture, who always gets involved in crimes without meaning to. A very funny and exciting book – perfect for early readers, but also for reading aloud. With lots of colourful illustrations that add an extra dose of humour to the story.” NDR Mikado Redaktion

“A particularly enjoyable read-aloud or early reader book, illustrated in colour throughout.” Wetterauer Zeitung, Gießener Allgemeine, Alsfelder Allgemeine

“These books about Papa Rob, Criminelle, Sheriff the dog, and everyone else in the Knyckertz family are filled with humor and wordplay. Perfect for reading aloud or putting in the hands of a primary schoolchild who wants to read alone.” Dala-Demokraten

“That it’s aesthetically pleasing and appealing also plays a big role—quite simply, that [the books] are cute, scary, and funny. Just as it is to be in the vicinity of the Knyckertz family.” Dagens Nyheter

“This is the story of a crime family and right from the start you get to see a rap sheet for each and every last one of them. In this particular story, they’re planning a heist but things go wrong and it’s up to the kids to save the day. Note the shot of the creators of the book. Note the fun Quizzes at the end of the book (Find Your Criminal Name!). And especially note that this is the VERY rare import to garner a quote from the king of funny himself, Jon Scieszka!! Never seen THAT before!” Betsy Bird, School Library Journal
