Hedda has moved to a foster home and started a new school. There she meets Sire with the electric hair and ripped jeans, an outsider but still with high status in class. Hedda thinks Sire smells like pine needles and moss, and when Sire touches Hedda’s shoulder, there’s a burning sensation on her birthmark on her shoulder. There seems to be a connection between them. There are also other strange things in the town: a tree no one is allowed to touch, secret rooms and a magical spring.
