Everything is neat and quiet in the various rooms of a house: the living room, the kitchen, the bathroom. But in the bedroom, the floor between two identical beds is covered in toys, books, and drawings. A girl named Sofia sits on one bed wielding a pair of scissors in her hand. After taking a deep breath, Sofia starts to cut her long brown braids, which then fall to the ground.

After packing two backpacks, Sofia gets dressed: two t-shirts, two pairs of pants, two pairs of socks, two pairs of shoes, and two hats. Leaving home, she embarks on a journey that will lead her to another realm, and eventually back to her sister—her other half.

Illustrator Maja Celija captures the warmth and emotion of the Lisa Riccardi‘s story with meticulous detail and carefully chosen colors. Together, they bring the reader a quietly enchanting book about doubleness and the joy of sisterhood.
