The Angel of Death (The Lost Ones)

Johan Rundberg

The memories of the winter have faded, and Mika is no longer wanted by the law. One night she receives a visit by a member of the criminal gang The Girls. The member wants to show Mika her macabre discovery. At the same time, Valdemar Hoff asks for help with a new case. Everything seems connected somehow. A terrible secret seems to lie behind these two events, a secret that has been unrevealed for many years. The noose is tightening around Mika and Valdemar as they try to solve the biggest unsolved murder case the city has ever seen.

Press voices

“Robust prose paints vivid pictures, enhancing characterization, plot twists, and an action-packed finale…Exceptionally entertaining, always suspenseful, and eminently satisfying.” —Kirkus Reviews, Starred Review

“Exceptional: for its dry, witty humor and compelling plots; its characterizations, at once engaging and deeply respectful; and especially for the gravitas at the heart of its crime solving, an awareness of a deep inequity that resonates well beyond the stories’ historical and geographical setting. Swedish noir for the young.” —The Horn Book, Starred Review

“Avid readers with an appetite for mystery and strong female characters will become fast fans of Mika Moonwind and her adventures. A fantastic book for growing readers who enjoy a bit of mystery with their historical fiction.” —School Library Journal

“A deftly crafted, original, and fun read from start to finish… Ably translated into English for an American readership by Eva Apelqvist, The Lost Ones is especially and unreservedly recommended…” —Midwest Book Review
