You might think that birds are just birds. That all nuthatches are alike, just as all sparrowhawks are alike. That’s not the case. Birds are more like people, both alike and different at the same time.

Pumpkin knows that. Because on a cold winter’s day, the bird sits there on the windowsill, a tufted Nuthatch with a determined look and a black mask over her eyes. Like a little bandit.

Soon she comes flying every day when Pumpkin comes home from school, they become best friends. Until one day, when she just disappears…
