Photography has always been a way to experiment – from the camera obscura to portraits, photomontage, and travel with a camera.

What if young people (and others) realized that the retro filters on their phones point to a real past? Then photography wouldn’t seem “old,” but a living story that can be reinterpreted and played with. Today, photos are taken so casually that many miss the chance to explore photography’s roots.

The 19th century is an exciting starting point: misunderstood artists, daring travelers, failures and breakthroughs, images created with chemistry instead of pixels.

The history of photography is also the history of our gaze — how we see and share reality. Telling it is a way to strengthen and believe in our own perspectives.
