The Blue Owl

Lotta Geffenblad

In a forest clearing among miles-wide bluish mountains, live two friends: Stenberg and Granlund. Their days are filled with outings, freshly brewed coffee and buttery chantarelles. They like sitting together during sundown, watching the sun disappear behind the treetops.
But then something terrible happens! Stenberg dies. Just drops dead. Granlund is devastated. Soon after, a giant, blue owl lands in the desolate clearing. What does it want from Granlund?
With The Blue Owl, Lotta Geffenblad has created a blue-shimmering fairy tale for all ages, about sorrow and the essence of friendship.

Lotta Geffenblad is a Swedish illustrator, picture book maker and animator, educated at Beckmans School of Design in Stockholm. She has illustrated and written many children’s books. She has also directed and animated a number of animated fi lms and series, often in collaboration with other animators and visual artists, for which she has received many awards. She lectures regularly at animation and illustration schools.

Press Voices

The story of Granlund, who is left alone when Stenberg dies, is factual, but the grief takes shape in a blue owl who keeps Granlund company. The pictures are truly exceptional: evocative, colorful and imaginative.” Dagens Nyheter’s top list
