My First Birds
In the first book in the new series DISCOVER NATURE, we get to know nineteen of the most well-known birds in the Northern hemisphere. Learn to spot the difference between a Common Crane and a Grey Heron, and learn more about the Swedish national bird: the Common Blackbird. The book includes concise facts about the birds’ characteristic traits, what they eat and where they live. If you’re lucky, you might find them on a walk in the forest, or in your own backyard!
My First Fish
This book presents facts about eighteen different species of fish that live in our waters, both those already familiar to most of us as well as the more unusual ones. We get to know their different traits, how they live, and even how you can catch them! Find out what fish is called the Nordic crocodile, which one can dive fast as lightning, and which fish can be caught with the help of glittering pearls. The book includes a page of facts with different forms of fishing and lures.
My First Trees
In the third book, the reader is introduced to 17 different Nordic trees. Learn how to tell different trees apart, both from their bark, leaves and buds. The reader also learns how to determine a tree’s age, which kind of tree is used for making matches, and which one is especially vital for bees and bumblebees in the early spring.
At the end of the book there is a page with difficult words and explanations, and also a page with tree-related things that you should keep an eye out for when you are in the woods, for example strange roots, witches’ brooms, and nests!
My First Insects
The fourth book, the reader gets to meet butterflies, beetles, dragonflies, fireflies and many more. The book is filled with facts about different insects, about why insects are important, instructions on how to help our pollinating insects by building bug hotels and planting flowers. This is a great introduction to the teeming world of insects.
My First Berries & Mushrooms
In the fifth book in the Discover Nature Series the reader learns more about different edible berries such as raspberreis, blueberries and cloudberries. But also edible mushrooms such as chantarelles and the cauliflower mushroom. There is a page with information on toxic berries and mushrooms and a bonus recipe from the Swedish TV-chef Niklas Ekstedt.
My First Winter Animals
Author and illustrator Emma Jansson uses a mix of techniques in order to create detailed and clever images. She draws the entire picture on paper in black pen, which she then scans. In Photoshop, she does the coloring, and cuts and pastes sheets of watercolor, marker and photos. In her free time, she likes to go bird watching, hike in the forest with her dogs, or go fishing.
