Come, Wind!

Mimi Åkesson & Linda Bondestam

Oh, the wind. Oh, the wind. Come, wind!

In this book, the wind rushes and flies and is sometimes completely still. Because the wind does as it pleases, doesn’t it? And what happens when we want it to blow more? Or less? Or if we want it to change direction?

Come, Wind! is a picture book that invites us to discover the wind, play with it, and see ourselves in relation to it. A thought-provoking book about the wind in our lives and our lives in the wind. And about a dog as fast as the wind!

Mimi Åkesson and Linda Bondestam previously created Here Are All the Others, published in 2022. It was selected as one of the 100 Outstanding Picture books in Bologna 2023 and was nominated for the Finnish children’s book prize, Runeberg Junior.

Mimi Åkesson has studied Creative Writing in Stockholm and has worked as an editor. She has contributed to journals and anthologies such as 20-TAL, Ordkonst, and Blå blixt.

Linda Bondestam is an award-winning Finland-Swedish artist, illustrator, and children’s book author. She has illustrated around 30 picture books. In 2024, she was awarded the August Prize in the children- and youth category for the book Chop Chop.

“The helplessness before nature’s forces, and the awe at how they riot on as they please, are at the heart of Mimi Åkesson and Linda Bondestam’s new picture book Come, Wind!
Anyone could of course recognize the power, and at times the threat, of a storm wind, and as a child trying to safely stand leaning against it is likely something many of us have given a try. But in this book, the wind reveals many more faces than that.

The tone is brief and precise, as is the amount of text: Åkesson contributes just two words per spread. And yet, this is an extraordinarily rich little book.

A miniature novel to lose oneself within.” – GP

“A dramatic voyage of discovery where words and images unite with skill and playfulness.

It’s an impressive display of balance and movement for the very youngest readers, one that sets both emotions and imagination in motion.” – Borås Tidning
