Dragon Fire

Åsa Mendel-Hartvig & Ane Gustavsson

No one notices Millie sneaking out in the middle of the night. Just the trees watch. Turn around, they sing. Go back little one! The dragon has come. You’re not safe here! But the stars twinkle at Millie, the moon flowers smell wonderful, and it was long since the humans understood the trees’ language. At home, big sister Malva wakes up with a jolt. A tap on the window, maybe a branch? Little sister’s bed is empty. Malva senses the danger and runs after. By the spring in the woods, there are water lilies and singing frogs. With a delighted shriek, Millie throws a stone in the water. Then the dragon opens its mouth. It’s just a newlyhatched, little dragon – unaware of its powers to burn when frightened. Look out! Malva screams. But it’s too late.

Through enchanting imagery, a special tale of sorrow, sisterhood and love’s liberating powers is told.
