What Did Alex See?

Rute Nieto Ferreira & Lucy Vigrass

What does Alex see on her morning walks? From Monday to Sunday, there are many things to be found, and many colours to be spotted. Bright and bold pictures celebrate the joy of noticing new things, day after day. A book ideal for children aged two to six years. This story is inspired by Columbia Road, the East London street famous for its Sunday flower market.

What Did Alex See? was written by Rute Nieto Ferreira, an architect and urban designer with a passion for beautiful illustrated children’s books, which she has been collecting for many years (way before her children were in the picture). Alongside her lecturing and architectural practice she has developed and run kids architecture workshops with the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.
Rute first met illustrator Lucy Vigrass on the street that inspires this book. Lucy is a founding member of the illustration and animation collective Peepshow (who in 2015 received an Emmy award for their work on the PBS TV Series How We Got To Now). Lucy has been a professional illustrator since graduating form the University of Brighton in 1998. Her work has been on the cover of The Economist and Creative Review, and featured in The New York Times, The Guardian and Wired among many other international publications. This is her first picture book.
