Amanda is in sixth grade. At the end of the semester, before the class will split up, the whole class will go on a survival trip in the forests. They will live in small huts, learn about survival and go rafting. Amanda does not look forward to the trip. She is lonely, has no real friends and is constantly taunted. Worst of all is Philip who disguises his mean comments with a smile.

When they are going white water rafting Philip and Amanda end up in the same boat. At first all is going well but suddenly the rubber boat runs into a tree blocking the stream, and it tips over. Amanda and Philip fall into the water. Alone in the wilderness, they are forced to work together to survive in the rain and the cold.
