Mirja and the Boy in the Pink House

Sofia Nordin & Matilda Ruta

A magical treasure hunt!

Mirja doesn’t want to stay at grandma and grandpa’s house in the countryside. There are only grown ups there1

But this summer, a family with a five-year-old boy, William, has moved into the pink house.

William’s boots are outside the door. Mirja tiptoes up the stairs and puts a potato in one of them. Later she finds a small round pale-gray rock by the door, with a sign on it made with purple marker. Quickly she grabs a charcoal and draws magical signs all over the road in front of William’s house.

The following morning he has taped a huge drawing on his window. After breakfast Mirja gathers some shiny things and walks over to the pink house. In the trees, she hangs glass beads on strings and Christmas ornaments that she borrows from her grandma and grandpa. William’s response is an envelope with glitter on it. Inside Mirja finds the first clue to what will be a treasure hunt, with maps, glass beads, shiny red candy and wavy arrows on the ground pointing through the woods.

The clues lead to William! Perhaps this summer will be more eciting than Mirja could ever have dreamed…
